Science Proves the England Football Team Can Damage Your Health

The nation has been stressed, the players have been stressed and now there is scientific evidence to show that just watching the England football team really is bad for your health.

The World Cup has proved a nerve racking and stressful experience for England fans and the fall out continues to cause anguish for the nation.

In a bid to physiologically prove how stress levels can be affected by watching England play, 42 year old Paul Kemp-Robertson, Founder and Editor in Chief of Contagious magazine agreed to be tested by London based health and performance company Optima-life.

Paul was fitted with a memory belt which records heart rate data, beat by beat. The data is then downloaded and using state of the art technology, a report is produced which shows stress levels throughout the period being tested. The data also records periods of physical activity and times where the body is in recovery mode. Paul's results were quite remarkable.

He put the monitor on at the start of the England vs Algeria match and kept it on overnight. His stats showed that he was stressed throughout the whole game right from the kick off. But the stress didn't finish there. He even showed signs of stress for a number of hours after the game.

The data also identifies at what time of the night the body starts to recover and details levels of recovery during the night. Paul obviously had all those misplaced passes on his mind as his recovery didn't start until midnight. He also showed signs of stress in his sleep – nightmares no doubt!

Speaking after receiving his feedback Paul said
"The results are amazing. I do take my football seriously but I had no idea I was so wound up watching the game. It was a pretty poor display and it just goes to prove watching the England football team really is a stressful! experience."

So at last we have found one good reason for England exiting the World Cup so early. Paul and other football fans can rest easy, well for a few months at least!
