John Shepherd from Ultra-Fit finds the Positives in Stress
John Shepherd, Contributing Editor at Ultra-Fit magazine recently spent some time with Optima-life's Performance Director Nigel Stockill looking at the effect of stress, and in particular training stress, on the body. For the sake of science John put his own body to the test.
Nigel put John though his paces using a number of fitness tests including the Conconi maximum exertion test. John was monitored in two separate sessions and the data was analysed using Optima-Life's Firstbeat Technology software.
The results proved John to be in great physical shape, with excellent ability to recover. They also opened his eyes to the value of the data from a performance and recovery perspective and how he could manage training stress to maximise his performance.
Quoting from his article John said:
'The more my results were interpreted the more I began to realise the huge potentiality of the technology. I could see that I had fully recovered after a workout by the next day and could train hard again. I could identify the amount of sleep I should get and crucially what effects my training was actually having.'
John recognised how the technology can be used both from a health perspective and in monitoring and directing training and performance.
'There are many health and sport potentialities with R-R analysis. For the former it can really show people how their bodies are coping with life, stress and exercise and for the latter whilst doing the same it can really direct training to bring about peak performance.'
